I'd agree with that. Short of napalm, heaven knows what kills them off!

More seriously, they are very prone to fungal infections of their
roots when grown in rich, damp conditions. Under such circumstances,
they are short-lived plants. Beyond that, digging them out below
soil level.


In Bristol you frequently see them growing out of chimneys
and walls, so both feeding and digging would have other
disadvantages
