Thank you Nick
I take it the book is " Western Gardening" from Sunset? I think I shall
take a long slow trip towards Afghanistan...

Good Morning all
Any suggestions about resources and info, or plant suggestions, for
trying
to garden in the hills in southern France, with hot very very dry
summers,
and cold sometimes severe frosts in winter. The soil is extremely rocky
and
poor. Holm/scrub oak everywhere. I can find info about sun and heat
loving
plants, or for frost resistant, but not for both at the same time.. I
have
started with raised beds etc.
There is much less problem than appears, but DON'T use UK gardening
books as references. The Sunset New Western Gardening Book (a
California publication) is good. You will be able to grow many
of the very spectacular plants from Asia Minor and the south west
of the USA.
There is a fair amount of terrain with a similar climate from where
you are stretching off towards Afghanistan.

Nick Maclaren.
