Default Planting Time Just Six Weeks Away

I spent the day getting ready to propagate most of my veggie seeds.
Planting time in my area of PA is May 15. I finally got my new garden
all dug and ready to go. This time of year brings much joy into this
old mans life! The days are really getting nice up into the mid 70s.
The geese are heading north and the robbins have returned. Can't ask
for much more than that! I just hope the late tomato blight keeps it's
distance this year. Last year we were hit hard with very few crops
escaping the blight in our area. This is the very first year that I
started my plants from seed. Other years I bought them from the local
nursery instead. Can't get many heirlooms around here and that is my
main reason for starting my own. Can't say I ever tasted an heirloom
tomato in recent years but I can remember back many years ago how good
tomatoes tasted compared to today. Don't get me wrong, as some hybrids
are very good indeed and I enjoy them also. I'm going to grow 16
different varieties this year and about half are heirlooms. My main
problem now will be trying to find brown material for the composter.
Lots of green but very little brown in the summer months. I hope we all
have bumper crops this year Happy gardening to all.
