Default OT (sort of) The New Rose by Spike Milligan

"Alan Hutson" wrote in
:

I think that most of you will appreciate it as I did when I came
across it, you sweem that sort...

The New Rose

The new rose
trembles with early beauty
The babe sees the beckoning carmine
the tiny hand
clutches the cruel stem
The babe screams
The rose is silent
Life is already telling lies.

Spike Milligan London 1967

BTW saw a brown butterfly (to far away to identify) in bright sunshine
this afternoon. Merseyside

Spike could write some charming poetry.
He was a charming person too with many talents. He was a musician for a
while also.

I have some of my fathers reel to reel audio tapes taken from the radio
during his musical days and rather more of the Goons era. Most people would
only remember him from the Goons I think, although his humour was in all of
his material.

Thanks for the poem,
Baz
