There is an interesting article in next week's Radio Times (out
yesterday) about Monty and the new GW, which starts next week.
He's also made some programmes about Italian gardens to be shown
sometime on BBC2.

(posted again as my original posted under heading "Monty Don" went
into my archive of posts from 3 years ago.)

It arrived here OK. Hasn't he already visited Villa d'Este in a
previous series.

I think so. But when he posted here some time ago, he said he had a
new series coming out and this is it. That was before it was known
he'd be the new GW presenter.

I didn't see his post here.

It was on 11th November - I think you may have been away.

Yes. I was in England.

He posted to
refute a comment by a journalist who had written he'd lost all interest
in gardening. He said he'd spent last year (2010) writing a book and
making a series on Italian gardens. My only fear is that it's going to
arouse great longings for a trip round Italy - and then there's all
that wonderful Italian food....oh dear!

There are enough beautiful gardens in England that haven't been on TV.
Maybe he
should focus his efforts at home first.

Oh, I have no problem at all with his travelling abroad to look at
gardens. They tend to garden in a different style and with different
planting, so I'd say that would be extremely interesting all way round.

I know you were impressed with his round the world tour, but we weren't. We
thought he didn't put enough effort into preparing it.

For some reason, I can't stand Monty Don. Maybe you've hit the nail on
the head: he doesn't put enough effort into his presentations.
