Ha! Dale, I get where you're coming from, but do you deny that the result
was façade? Of course it was. Sure, it was an incredible bit of
TECHNIQUE - far beyond what most of use possess, but the result was artistic
affectation, not artistic excellence. Technical excellence to be sure, but
not ideal bonsai result.

No one denies (so far as I've noticed) that it was incredible work. It just
wasn't beautiful, inside AND out. Yes, Kimura does the same things
sometimes and when he does it is just as affected and "false." He simply
tends to do it better than most. ;-)

C'mon, the day that Jim L. is branded an elitist is the day heck freezes
over. ;-p
