They find it by smell. You need to mask the smell for at least 48 hours
or until it has rained twice.

Commercial scent deterrents exist, but can be expensive.

if you have your own cat, it might not like it.

I have heard of barrier methods, like covering with thorny berberis
trimmings, but am not sure it would be effective.
