Hi crazyninja,

The fact that the root cuttings were dry and dead looking is not a good sign, If you want a good comfrey plant to cultivate.

I would suggest Blocking 14, as its seeds are sterile so therefore will not invade your plot or garden. It is also a herb which bumble bees favour for its pollen,
