Maybe it's just too damn hot?

Excessive heat is a problem. We harvested some tomatoes which appeared
to have been cooked on the vine.

Your withered and brown tomato vines may be the victim of blight.

We have enough cucumbers and eggplants to share with neighbors. Basil
has done especially well this year. On the negative side, the squash
borer is killing our zucchini, peppers are not doing well, and a few
tomato vines fell victim to blight.
