I promise it's not just indoor hyacinth bulbs that make /me/ itch!

Yes, there may be something in them that you're allergic to. A keen
gardening friend of mine was terribly allergic to daffs, which they
also grew as a crop. *She just accepted it as part of life's rich
tapestry!
