Now and again, we discuss different browsers and our experiences with
them. In case you haven't picked it up, from January, Microsoft will
start silently updating Internet Explorer to the latest version - this
isn't security updates, it's updating IE7, say, to IE9.

More info he http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16214912.

It may be an issue for some people. I use Chrome most of the time but
I've found, e.g., that IE is more reliable when I'm doing my online
tax return, provided I use IE7. IE8 and IE9 don't work.

If you haven't upgraded your operating system to at least Windows Vista,
you'll not get IE9.

Some think that that's another good reason to stick with WinXP. If
you stick with WinXP your old PC and your old peripherals will still
work.

Absolutely! I haven't upgraded from XP because I have HP printers and,
despite what HP assure me, that their new drivers for Vista and 7 are
fully featured, they are not!

The Win 7 driver worked with my old HP printer, however there is no
driver for my Canon scanner, unless I buy one from Vuscan. My webcam
doesn't work with Win&. I can't upgrade two old working Dell WinXP PCs
because it isn't possible to put enough memory in them

Have you searched on the internet to see if anyone has managed to modify
another Canon scanner driver so that it will work with your scanner
under Win7?

I had the same problem with my Epson 2450 scanner (no 64-bit driver),
which still works well on XPH. But after a bit of googling I found a
fix which modifies the Epson 4490 scanner 64-bit driver. The 2450
appears in the guise of a 4490 machine in Control Panel "Devices and
Printers" on my Win7HPx64, but it now works well with that OS.
