I believe.

Looking for to establish if what of above ground is edible (picled).

The roots are called garmar ગરમર
The stems above ground are called ડાળાં (branches) DaaLaan.

Looks there is no Usenet group where people are talking about plant
material

Not familiar with this at all, but the literature suggests medicinal
value - treatment for glaucoma, hypertension, angina, ...

There is a sci.bio.botany newsgroup and there is alt.health.ayurveda.
Don't know how active these groups are, but worth a try.

Managed to gather more info.
DaaLaan are stems though could not identify them anywhere in images.

I am eating the roots pickled in Vinegar.

It is

Sanskrit : Pashan Bhedi
Hindi: Patharchur
Kannada : Makandiberu
English : Coleus
Gujarati : Garmalu
Marathi : Maimnul

For coleus barbatus Google images show leaves which look like leaves
that make Bhajiyaan. They taste like ajwain.
