Default Grass for shady lawn

Here in Zone 7, a local blend called 'DelMarVa' works very well-- the key
however is to not let it ever dry out during the first year.

Hi -

I'm trying to get grass to grow in a very shady area that has pine trees

on
the side. I planted shade grass last spring, it did well then died in

July.
Any advice for doing it better this year so I can get it to really take ?
Right now this area is just dirt, seems like the rain that falls gets

sucked
up by the pine tree roots.

Thanks
