Default Laying a lawn in November???

Hi Guys.
I'm a TOTAL newbie with my 1st ever lawn - It's a mess (even I know
that).
A local gardener is offering to lay new turf, cheap, while business is
quiet - BUT - is laying a lawn in November a good idea? I naively think
it should be done in spring, otherwise the grass will die. Am I right?

You don't say where you are, If the weather stays mild, and you are in
an area that doesn't get high rainfall so that the ground is workable,
and is not a bog, then it is possible.
If the grass is going to go down and no one is going to be walking on it
or running about on it so that is left alone to root when the weather is
right then it would be OK.
It would take some very hard weather to kill of good turf, the biggest
problem would be heavy snow lying on it for a few weeks.
