Me and the pigeons have an agreement. My feeders hang from the normal
style of metal poles and brackets. About two foot below the feeders on
the top of tubes left over from other hangers and an old tent are
large 15" diameter plastic plant pot saucers with a few drain holes
drilled in them.
The pigeons which are of the Wood variety and their friends the
collared doves are welcome to any food their smaller relations drop
from above. Keeps the ground tidy and less attraction for rodents.
An advantage using the large saucers as opposed to the small expensive
branded seed catchers is that they are large enough for ground feeding
birds to feel happy in them as well.
Two saucers mounted on a pole a few inches apart with the lips
opposite each other makes a quick cheap bird table with roof if you
are handy doing DIY. Bit of studding ,a few nuts ,washers and a drill
and you are done,make the top saucer bigger to keep the drips well off
the food.
