Happened bu chance to see some of Gardener's World on Friday (generally
avoid on account of unctuous presenters - btw that Aberdonian chap on
Beechgrove Garden is a refreshing change!).

Saw some pink and white tulips in pots and a few in the ground. They
were stunning. Anyone know them (name? supplier?)? Googled around but no
joy so far.

Thanks - Chris

Thanks for the info/advice Sacha!

It's not Sorbet I'm afraid but could well be Tulipa clusiana 'Lady
Jane'. I say could well cause in my head the striping was more defined.
This'd do though. It's a cracker!

Monty Don has replied to my query and you're absolutely correct,
they're Lady Jane. Beautiful.

T. clusiana 'Peppermint Stick' is similar: http://tinyurl.com/n3toub8

Very like it, though the OP wanted to know what was on show in GW and
Lady Jane were the ones in MD's garden. He wrote that they open fully
and white during the day and close at night. I must remember to order
some because they're lovely, imo.

I suggested it in case the OP couldn't get Lady Jane. AIUI opening in
the day and closing at night is a feature of all T. clusiana
varieties, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulipa_clusiana

Is that so? I never knew that because it's not one I've ever grown. I
don't know if Lady Jane is hard to obtain but as you say, Peppermint
Stick is so like it that it would be a good substitute. I'm going to
look for it now, just to see if I can find it easily. We don't do many
bulb plants but we get bulbs from Parkers usually.
