Have you watered them recently? And I mean _really_ watered them, not
just a sprinkle, but several watering-cans-full over the area to get
deep penetration down to the roots.

Agree with Chris - sounds like lack of water. Pinching out is to make them bush out, not to stop the stems from flopping.

I've often watered more than I think could possibly be needed, then dug down into the soil and found it bone dry only an inch below the surface.
