When I was a kid in London we used to play on a bombed site just along
the street: the fireweed was taller than we were - a magic forest. By
about 1970 all those glorious playgrounds had disappeared under new
houses, but there's still plenty of fireweed to enjoy on railway
embankments and round demolished factories.
