Autumn or spring are the times to spike or fork the lawn. I prefer to
do it in the spring and use the autumn to go over the lawn with a
spring tine rake to remove the thatch (dead grass) that clogs the
surface. Others I know prefer to spike in the autumn and de-thatch in
the spring.

I usually give the lawn a feed in the spring. There are both liquid
and granular products available. The advantage of liquid over granular
is that it is almost impossible to over-apply. (Over applying granular
feed will scorch the grass and it'll be black for a while though it
will recover in time.)

There's always a bit of moss in my lawn in the spring so I usually use
Evergreen Complete. It'll do the feed/weed kill/moss control in one
go. It's available as both granules and a soluble powder.
