I'm using a 4L jug (the "big" cranberry juice size), into which I dump

most
of a 2Kg bag of sugar (about 4.5lbs) and a teaspoon of yeast. How long

can
I expect one to last? I'm heading to Montreal for a few days, and don't
want to come back to a bunch of pH-shocked fish....

Thanks;

hmm, let's see, the normal recommended mixture is about a 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of
yeast to two cups of sugar and about a 1 1/2 liters of water and that lasts
me about 10-14 days. I'm not sure what is going to happen with your mixture.

The limiting factor, AFAIK, is the alchohol production by the yeast.
The commonly used mixture is about the max amount that can be used
before the yeast are killed off by the alchohol levels - any more and
it's just wasting sugar.
