I don't know what sort you have; you didn't say; but when U worked in
Cardiff they were modernising one of the old Victorian houses in
Cathedral road and felled a Magnolia grandiflora that was growing up the
front of the building, it was 4 stories tall.
They cut it off at ground level and capped it off with lead.
When I last saw it it was back up to about 15ft and looking very happy.
It hadn't read the book about height or pruning.
