Well, you had your chance to cut the dead and dying last forest health
and salvage and went for the old growth - which this new program is
just another variation of!

Hmmm... Seems I've just discovered a link between preservationism and
illiteracy. Let's see...since we're not cutting trees, there are no
books for our students to read which is pushing internet teaching
which leads to Nintendo overexposure which leads to illiteracy.

Seriously though, I couldn't exactly understand what you wrote. The
Salvage Rider was imperfect and unpopular. It used to be that
"preservationists" didn't want us cutting big trees. Then they didn't
want any green trees cut. Now they don't want us to cut dead and dying
trees. What's next??

The latest trend is to discard science in favor of emotional extremes.
Example: A scientific study of burned trees by Sherrie Smith
determined that burned trees with less than 35% of their original
crown will almost never recover. "Preservationists" think that those
trees should be given the chance to recover, even if they only have
just one green branch left. Even when they are near roads and will
fall when rot sets in. Even when people start suing the Federal
government because a tree fell on them??? Even when fallen trees block
emergency vehicles??? Even when roads to recreational sites remain
blocked because the USFS has funneled the rest of their funds into
fire suppression??? I could go on.
