Default [IBC] Book Signings

In a message dated 7/28/05 12:08:25 AM, Alan writes:
It seems that lately bonsai authors are a little reticent about book
signings. I'm not sure what's up with that.

Could be coincidence. I have quite a few signed books. When I was in
Washington, Charles Ceronio was kind enough to help me with my Italian stone pine,
which of course must be grown in Pierneef style. He also signed two copies of his
book, one belonging to Bonsai Society of Upstate NY (Rochester), & one I had
just bought for our club.

And anyway, books are for reading -- and using. Mary signed
her book for me, and I appreciate that and other help over
the years, but usually, if a book is signed we are hesitant
to use it because somewhere in the back of our pecunious
minds is the thought that "someday this book could be
VALUABLE, so I don't want to write in it, or get dirt in it
or wrinkle a page, blah, blah, blah."

Most of my 75+ bonai books are good, well-used, and usually
worn friends, and probably worth 25 cents at the corner
rummage sale (where some of them were picked up). :-)

nuts and berries. And I'm right here to tell you (that) the
berries are just about all gone. -- Uncle Dave Macon, musician

Do you think is a good idea a museum about bonsai book (signed) ? for the
future generations ?

Wouldn't that be a library or archives? In the USA, in
addition to the Library of Congress, we have a great bonsai
library at our National Bonsai & Penjing Museum.
I have hopes that eventually its holdings will be
digitized, linked with similar repositories around the world,
and accessible by subscription through the internet. I think this
sort of development will help propel bonsai into the "information
age". ;-)
