PRESS RELEASE

BONSAI FESTIVAL: Suncoast Bonsai Society’s Annual Exhibit: ‘Celebrating Kaihen (transformations)’. Showcasing the artistry of the society’s members, this event will have close to one hundred bonsai on display, from novices through professionals. Members wi
ll be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the trees or the art of bonsai. A vendor’s area will have bonsai for sale with written instructions for their care.

Bonsai demonstrations: Three bonsai artists will present separate lecture/demonstrations on the art of bonsai.
Times are 10:30 am, 12:30 and 2:30 pm. After each tree is styled and potted, they will be raffled off to the public.

Children’s’ Activities: Youngsters will delight in several activities designed just for them. Each relates to Japanese culture and bonsai. Children can try their hands at rice paper rubbings, Koi fish and kite making, bonsai picture coloring, and creating
bonsai trees out of Popsicle sticks. Contests will offer prizes!

Martial Arts Demonstrations: Four martial arts schools will demonstrate proper forms, sparring, self-defense, breaking objects and the use of weapons, showcasing the teachings and techniques of the Wa No Michi Ryu Karate/Kobudo style. Professor Michael Mc
Gann, Grand Master, 10th degree black belt, will do a sword form demonstration. Performances will run continuously throughout the day.
