[IBC] Serissa & Joseph's Coat
In a message dated 2/27/05 12:01:42 AM, Carol in Davie, Florida writes:
When I looked for serissa on the web I found it listed as a house bonsai.* Any comments on this?* I am in S.* Florida - Zone 10. I can assure you Serissa is not a houseplant in south Florida. It will thrive outdoors all year round, but probably not in full sun. Then you can bring it indoors for display. In fact, unless it is already a stunning specimen, you might do well to plant it in the ground for a few years to thicken the trunk. It has been reported as naturalized in Georgia, but I don't know if it has been collected there yet. Joseph's Coat.* I has very small leaves - almost the size of the serissa* and multi colored leaves. There are several plants with the name Joseph's coat, such as Alternanthera and Amaranthus. However, they are all fleshy bedding plants grown as annuals in the North. Try it, but i don't know how suitable it is for bonsai. Multicolor leaves on a bonsai is a matter of taste. You need to contact a local bonsai society.
