Telegraph cucumbers....help anyone??

Hi all...this is the first year I have grown cucmbers, telegraph variety. Some are now 12 - 14 inches long and look ready to pick, except for the tiny prickles... the prickles rub off easily but I'm not sure if the prickles mean I need to wait a bit longer B4 picking as a sign they are not ready... Any info from anyone would help. Ta
