the truth about wasps...and contrition
so i was walking along the driveway one year and bumped into a rhododendron where a wasp nest sat hidden...and they are definitely protective of the nest and attacked viciously. i swore i would genocide them all, and killed that entire nest and intended to slaughter any waps i came across anywhere whenever i could. I was very very wrong. last summer while working in the garden i noticed several waps hovering over and walking on various plants and my curiousity rather than homicidal rage was aroused , so i observed them for a bit. they are, like bees, very mellow when nest safety is not at stake and when not directly threatened, and i was able to move freely amongst them in the garden with no hostile action being taken by the wasps. As i watched, these little wonder workers walked over every square millimeter of the leaves on the plants they were interested in, gobbling up any pests they came across. my plants have never been so pest free. if you are fortunate enough to have them present in your garden.... consider it a blessing. they do a fantastic job of keeping the critters under control. LET THEM BE! you will not regret it. |
