Default Early maturing of corn?

I have some corn plants that are 20"-30" one that is 1 meter / 40" tall and
they are starting to develop a tassel. When I planted these corn plants, I
have noticed slow growth. Last year I remember that the plants were at least
5'5" or taller before you see the tassel (*i think). Are the plants going to
be fine and will it develop corn? Any information appreciated.
