Default Sodium (Na) - How bad for plants?

I am reading from old archives of this group that "too much sodium
will kill the plants". I think my well water contains good amount of
Sodium. My soap forms bubbles instead of scum. I guess that means I
have more Na instead of Mg or Ca.

Any articles in this regard or any pointers would be appreciated.

Regards
Dominic
