Default Whisper filter + CO2 ?

Would it be pointless to pump CO2 into the intake of my Whisper 60? It
would be an easy modification and the impeller should do a fine job of
busting the CO2 bubbles up. This is a waterfall(?) type filter in that
it dumps the filtered water back on top of the water. Would the surface
agitation cause the CO2 to just dissolve back into the air?

I'm sure this is going to be hard to quantify but, how much water
surface agitation causes the CO2 to dissolve? I mean anything other
than stagnant water? Or does it have to be the white-water rapids?

TIA

And for those of us playing along at home, it is ...?

(I currently have a similar setup, with my DIY CO2 setup to bubble into
the intake tube of my Aquaclear H.O.T. filter.)

I also have the same setup, and am considering getting a bell diffuser to
place by the intake instead. So I'm interested in any evidence one way or
another. Cheers,

Tony

Well,

the popular opinion on Google was: It works but due to the "waterfall"
type effect this filter has much of the CO2 escapes back into the air
immediately. You have to pump much more CO2 into the water to achieve
the same results, because of the losses.

Search in rec.aquaria.freshwater.plants for: "CO2" and "waterfall"

The first result (I think) pretty much explained it.

..... sorry about that. hehe
