Default Today's Garden - Centranthus_5396.jpg

Although my garden usually peaks in the 2nd week of July, there are
some things beginning to look pretty good now.

Centranthus rubber (Jupiter's Beard or Red Valerian) in the foreground
and Agastache (Hyssop; "golden jubilee") in the background.

I grow most of my perennials from seed and I have been working on the
Centranthus planting for several years. I have good germination from
it, but the transplants tend to struggle. It is still not as
substantial a planting as I want it, but this year I'm going to try
starting a bunch of stuff from cuttings and do some division and see
how it goes.

The Agastache, on the other hand, is a rampant self-sower. That bed in
the background about doubles in size every year all on its own. By
next year it may begin to become a problem.
