Sept 23 - helianthus_6691.jpg
My September garden is looking good and mostly taken over by tall
Cosmos and these guys, Helianthus. The Helianthus are one of several plants know as perennial sunflowers. These are second-year from seed. They flowered last year and they just started blooming about a week or so ago for this season. They grow quite tall, probably 7-8 ft. and they are covered with these yellow flowers about 3" across. The tall cosmos are all accidentals from prior years, but they are growing a good 6-7ft high too. The effect is this cloud of yellow, pink and white covering the lower growing spent plants from earlier in the season.
