New Zealand Plant...Ginger?

I shot this plant during my vacation in New Zealand.
It looks kind of like some ginger plants I've seen in San Diego, but I'm
not so good at Plant I.D.
Bob Hobden, Garraputa........Anyone(?) to the rescue.
