Stinging nettle female
Wind-pollinated flowers don't need to attract insects so they have no
colourful petals, just fuzzy stigmas to filter pollen out of the air. After flowering the female stems have tassels of ripening seeds while the males shed their flowers and begin to look rather dishevelled.
