Transplant shock? or dead plants?

Hello,

Some of the bare-roots I planted 3 weeks ago haven't done anything yet.
How long should I keep something before deciding that it's dead? I
know there is such a thing as root shock or transplant shock, but I
don't know much about it. What do you think?

I'll bet there's a way to tell -- like "snap one of the twigs and see
if it's green inside", or something like that.

This question applies to trees and rosebushes.

Thank you very much.

where did you get the plants? you can gently scrape a stem to see if there is any
green under the bark. Ingrid

I got the plants from various stores. The ones from nurseries are
doing better than the ones from hardware stores. (Yeah, I know, I know
.. . . .)

The rosebush is green already -- on the stem. It came that way from
the store. Does that mean it's alive? There are no leaves on it, no
growth visible since we bought it.

Thank you.

being in zone 7 I would think it would have leafed out if it was going to. you could
try cutting it down a bit to see if it is alive. time to take it back I would say.
