Transplant shock? or dead plants?
Hello,
Some of the bare-roots I planted 3 weeks ago haven't done anything yet. How long should I keep something before deciding that it's dead? I know there is such a thing as root shock or transplant shock, but I don't know much about it. What do you think? I'll bet there's a way to tell -- like "snap one of the twigs and see if it's green inside", or something like that. This question applies to trees and rosebushes. Thank you very much. Ted Shoemaker I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by. - (Douglas Adams) |

where did you get the plants? you can gently scrape a stem to see if there is any
green under the bark. Ingrid " wrote: Hello, Some of the bare-roots I planted 3 weeks ago haven't done anything yet. How long should I keep something before deciding that it's dead? Transplant shock? or dead plants?
being in zone 7 I would think it would have leafed out if it was going to. you could
try cutting it down a bit to see if it is alive. time to take it back I would say. The ones from nurseries are doing better than the ones from hardware stores. (Yeah, I know, I know . . . .) The rosebush is green already -- on the stem. It came that way from the store. Does that mean it's alive? There are no leaves on it, no growth visible since we bought it. Thank you.
