Default Acanthus in Pots?

Hi

I've just treated myself to an acanthus plant and am wondering if it is ok to keep it in a pot rather than putting it in the garden. I've read on the BBC website that once established it is 'virtually impossible' to move. Does anyone know how long it takes to become established? and if I can grow it in a pot, what size should it be?
