Morning Glories changing colors?
The subject says it... "Sometimes" my blossoms change color during the
day. The 'dark blues' turn white, and the 'reds' turn blue! I'm a newbie gardener, and while I like the variety, I would love to know what's going on! Thanks! |

Morning glories change color because of their pigmentation degenerating as the heat of the day or sun arrives higher in the sky. Thus, their common name. There is nothing you can do about it. My 'Heavenly Blue' are purple by about 1pm every day. They are just now starting to bloom because our night temps are lowering and day length is shortening. The vareigated morning glories seem to bloom all summer for me and are more a ground cover than a vine, but they can hang in baskets, they just don't climb. Thanks for the quick answer. This was as I feared. It's my first time growing them, and while they did a fine job of blocking off the veranda from the traffic below, and did give us a lovely show of color, they kept us hopping giving them enough water to keep alive through the summer's heat. Now if only they would block out the bozuzoku... ) |
