Default arborvitae rootball

i recently planted a 6 foot emerald green arborvitae and realized
that i left the burlap wrap on the rootbal. there were so many new roots
that i didnt see the burlap until i noticed it on a second emerald green
that i planted...is leaving the burlap on a bad thing? also, should i
wrap the foliage in burlap this winter since they are still settling in?
what about adding cow manure...?
thanks, cj in s.e. michigan
