i have a family of deer in my back yard wood area. im sure of it. im
curious what attracts them. is there certain trees or plants that
attract them? do they do harm to trees or plants? do they eat them?

Deer will eat most anything! Here is a good pamplet provided by the Alabama

Lot of us call them rats with hooves. They mess up our gardens, eat our
shrubs and a mature buck can strip all the bark off a small tree. Rather
than try to attract them, start looking for ways to protect your plantings
;(
