Would you buy these transgenic plants?
 

Something tells me that sooner or later nature will turn around and
bite us on the bum for being so ignorant of her ways!

Forget that: with all the resources of the plant world at their
disposal,
these are the most imaginative and useful they can come up with?

They're all just a bit dull. I mean, a fart-removing pot plant? Not
going to be number one on the gift list, is it?

What about a fruiting orange tree that's hardy in Aberdeen?

...or, a plum tree that produces Viagra so older guys can eat prunes
that
make them come and go.


LOL! I guess that's an old one by now. I really should get out more.

Monsanto has taken this tact for YEARS, and generally succeeded, but even
when they lose they win, because they can afford to drag small-timers into
court & bankrupt them whether or not there's a valid case. When organic
farmers advertised "no genetically altered ingredients," Monsanto sued
claiming they were slandered by the mere suggest that leaving something
out was good. When they lost a couple of these suits, they lobbied
Congress for new laws prohibiting mention of transgenic ingredients; they
bought enough politicians to get their new law, & thereafter customers who
wish to buy products from farmers who do not use anything genetically
altered, can't even find out which is which. The Law has become primarily
protection for big business against independent organic farmers & ordinary
citizens.

I just decided I would consider a transgenic plant: bring on the
slug-eating bindweed.
