Can sunflowers be transplanted?

Can sunflowers be transplanted safely? If so, what's the best way to do it?

Thanks,
Adam

Yes, up to the time they are less than a foot tall. take up a ball of soil with
the plant, A bareroot plant has a hard time. use a trowel or small shovel,
enter the soil about 3 inches from the plant, go about 6 inches deep. Cut this
plug all the way around the plant and pull out the plant and plug of soil,
transplant into a hole of the same depth, fill and water. Rarely ever lose one.

I start my sunflowers in 4 packs (the ones like you get
annuals in) and transplant them when they are about 6 inches
tall. They tend to get a better start in seed starter mix
and I always give a few of them away to the neighbors.
