Default Aspidistera

I have a 12-year old Aspidistera (Cast Iron plant) in its original 12"
cheap plastic pot. This year many of the leaves turned completely
brown. I washed the plant in the shower 2 months ago and new leaves
are coming up. I'd like to transplant it to a 13" deeper ceramic pot
using Miracle Grow potting mix. I'm cautious about doing this because
this particular plant can resent too much care and apparently does not
like to be transplanted. I suspect the most of the soil is gone by
now. I killed a cast iron plant 20 years ago by "too much care."
Any advice?
