I'd wait until spring. Perennials that bloom late in the season generally
dislike being moved now.

BTW, this plant is an incredible self-seeder for me. If I neglect to remove
the spent flower heads, I can count on spending some time in the spring
removing seedlings. It's a bit of a nuisance, but I keep it for its virtue
of blooming so late in the year.

don't move it. It'll be fine. Why would you want to move it? Is it in the
wrong spot? Not getting enough light? Or you are under the assumption that
it's not hardy for your zone......let us know and we can go from there.

I have a joe-pye 'Chocolate' that needs to be moved.

I've got them coming up wild everywhere on my property. They must self seed
very well in our area. They are even growing in the gravel around my swimming
pool. Most of them have dried out seed pods on them ready to explode as do my
sweet peas.

wrong spot? Not getting enough light? Or you are under the assumption that
it's not hardy for your zone......let us know and we can go from there.

Wrong spot. It's getting too much shade from my joe-pye 'Gateway' right next to
it. This is it's fourth year and every year it's getting fewer and fewer
flowers and didn't get as tall as last year. I also get very few seedlings.
Maybe I'm doing something else wrong. I basically pretty much ignore it except
for some supplemental watering and compost once a year.

Is it possible to get some seeds from you? Thanks Joy
