Default Crabs and junipers

I've got room for a small tree next to my deck, and I've got my eye on this new
'Candymint' crabapple cultivar (yum yum). It supposedly has great disease
resistance, but there are junipers (red cedar, rocky mountain) less than fifty
feet away. Am I crazy to even consider planting a crab, or would I be paranoid
not to?
