Why is it, any time some outfit sells plants that they may not know
everything about, do they put on the name Lily? I've seen I.Canna
called lilies yet they are NOT part of that group, and I've seen some
Iris called lilies too.

.................and what's the deal with "grape nuts"?

They're not nuts and there's no grapes in them!

What's the big deal?

..........and while we're out it, how about "military intelligence", "jumbo
shrimp" and "virtual reality"?

What's the deal with that?

What? You haven't seen Ginger Lilies and Palm Lilies advertised? (Not to
mention Blue Ginger, which is neither blue or ginger.)

As a child, in Cornwall, I remember the old [over 21!] folk used 'Lily'
for the daffodil~~ some probably still do. L of V was simply known as
'Valley'
But then some of them had had 'Hysterical rectomies' and painted with
'Plastic emotions'!!.
Best Wishes.

Well in places they still call daffodils Lenten Lilies.
and talking of local plant names you might find this site of interest.

And there's the Lenten Lily
that has not long to stay,
and dies on Easter Day.
