Default Mulch on a strawberry patch

When the hurricane of 1900 wiped out Galveston Island, Clara Barton, Red
Cross came down from the east coast and saw the devastation of an
agrarian economy, said they needed a "cash crop" and they planted
strawberries. That why Pasadena, TX is "Strawberry Capital of the
World". Even amid the refineries. A little trivia for ya.

Is it ok to put mulch on a strawberry patch and leave it on year round,=

or
do you have to take off the mulch in the summer?
