Cactus identification?

My mom has been growing this thing in a window pot in her apartment. She
has no idea what it is. Obviously it is some sort of cactus. Can anyone
identify it?

Looks like a carrion flower (Stapelia). The flowers smell awful and
flies will often lay eggs in the flower. It is a succulent.

Obviously not a cactus at all.

Its Orbea variegata, a Stapeliad, a stem succulent member of the Milkweed
family from South Africa.
