Default Qualcast Panther 30

Does anyone know how to remove the cutting cylinder from a Qualcast Panther 30 push mower? The spindle it is mounted on is spring loaded, but I cant get it to compress enough to enable the cylinder to be taken out of the body.

Any help will be appricated!
