Default Pergola flat top or slanted

I want to build a 10' long pergola but there is a slight rise in the yard
for this length. I want to have the support posts the same length and that
would create a 12 " rise at one end. The other half says that the top should
be level as that is the way pergolas are built.

Is there a standard? I think it would look very interesting following the
rise of the ground. Wisteria will be planted and I will use it as shade for
my hammock and the head will be at the high end.

Thanks

Bob
